Our People

Andrea Greiner, MD
Program Director

Our people are the heart of our program. From the reception desk to the exam room, from the laboratory to labor and delivery, from the conference room to the library, from administration office to faculty office you will find our people eager to help you become the best maternal-fetal medicine specialist you can be. There is a strong work ethic throughout our program.

At Iowa, you will be exposed to some of the best clinicians, researchers and teachers in our profession. We provide high-powered opportunities for you to learn career-long lessons from these dedicated professionals.

In keeping with the institution's tertiary care role, a large proportion of our patients represent complicated or high-risk conditions. We see women with a wide spectrum of maternal complications and fetal anomalies. Our labor-delivery suite is a state-of-the-art facility providing total care for the mother and her newborn.  It incorporates both modern technological advances as well as facilities for the family-oriented approach to patient care.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has approved the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Iowa for a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Our fellowship program is designed to provide advanced training in the care of the pregnant woman and her fetus and in the use of advanced technical instruments and research skills. We have a strong emphasis on ultrasound and genetics, as well as an intensive exposure to invasive procedures/fetal therapy/prenatal diagnosis. The purpose of the fellowship program, therefore, is twofold. First, the graduate of the fellowship program is expected to function as a subspecialist in maternal-fetal medicine. Second, the graduate of the fellowship program is expected to be trained in advanced clinical and/or basic research and, thus, capable of expanding the knowledge base of this subspecialty.
