The Department of Anesthesia at University of Iowa is pleased to offer an ACGME accredited fellowship in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain, and accepts applications from anesthesiologists who desire to focus on this relatively new and rapidly growing subspecialty.
Over a 12-month period, two fellows will rotate through a broad range of clinical areas including outpatient, inpatient, and pediatric regional and acute pain management within University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and the Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Mission Statement
Train fellows to practice current, evidence-based medicine in the field of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine with the skills for ongoing teaching and research and help them transition into innovators and physician leaders.
Program Aims
The Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship program is designed to provide graduating fellows:
- Expertise in pre-operative evaluation and management of acute pain. Including indications and contra-indications for interventional pain management techniques.
- Advanced training in the interdisciplinary evaluation and treatment of acute pain including multi-modal and regional anesthesia techniques..
- Post-operative application of regional anesthesia when appropriate.
- Peri-operative multi-modal acute pain management of surgical patients and acute pain management of hospitalized nonsurgical patients
