Child with surgeons

Thanks for your interest in the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at the University of Iowa. The University of Iowa Division of Pediatric and Thoracic Surgery offers a two-year Pediatric Surgery ACGME accredited fellowship. Training is provided at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, which is a quaternary referral center for the State of Iowa and western Illinois, located on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City. One fellow is accepted to the program every other year through the NRMP match. Trainees have the opportunity to lead the Pediatric Surgery service throughout their entire fellowship. Fellows are supported by a team of surgical residents, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists. Pediatric surgery faculty are responsible for training and supporting the fellows throughout the fellowship experience. In the first year of training, fellows rotate through the NICU and PICU and participate in the care of pediatric ECMO and trauma patients. Additionally, first year fellows have operative experiences in ENT and urology.  Fellows also lead didactic pediatric surgery and multidisciplinary conferences as well as participate in quality improvement projects and research activities of the Division of Pediatric Surgery.
