The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics provides an ideal training environment for Medical Toxicology. As the state’s only comprehensive academic medical center, we have a very busy consult service which receives over 900 unique consults per year, including the most complex patients in the region.

Our large referral base offers a wide variety of patients as well as a diverse patient population from rural and underserved communities. With all our subspecialists under one roof, we also work very closely with our other consultants which allows for collaboration on research, education, and many elective opportunities which allows for a well-rounded education.

The fellowship is an ACGME-accredited 2-year program. Upon completion, fellows will be eligible to sit for the board exam in Medical Toxicology.

As a fellow you will:

  • Work with a growing group of Toxicology faculty with a diverse training background
  • Be a part of a very busy bedside consultation service
  • Interact regularly with the Iowa Poison Control Center and manage patients throughout the state
  • Provide care in Occupational Medicine and Addiction Medicine clinics
  • Learn from the myriad of subspecialists throughout the institution
  • Provide education to medical students, residents, and other learners throughout the hospital
  • Have access to extensive research infrastructure in the Department of Emergency Medicine
  • Have time to explore electives to find your niche within Medical Toxicology
