About the Program

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics offers a three-year ACGME-accredited Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) fellowship. The three-year fellowship includes 24 months of clinical rotations (including Urogynecology, Urology, Colorectal surgery/GI and elective rotations) and 12 months of dedicated research time.

The University of Iowa’s URPS Fellowship was first accredited by ACGME in 2013 with the first fellow beginning training July 1, 2013.  The program is accredited to train two current fellows at any time and so participates in the fellowship match in two out of every three years.  We currently match OB/Gyn trained fellows.  The fellowship includes five core faculty members, with three from Urogynecology (OB/Gyn) and two from our Department of Urology.  Our program has a longstanding close relationship with Urology including shared multidisciplinary clinical care and shared research efforts going back over 20 years.  Our Urology faculty actively participate in fellowship didactics, and the fellows rotate on Urology 2-3 months each year. Additional faculty from Colorectal Surgery, GI and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy are also quite active in fellow didactic and clinical training.
