About
More About Me
I grew up in Gaza, Palestine. Growing up, medicine was always a part of dinner table conversations. Both of my parents were nurses, and their work and life mission inspired me to follow their example with the ultimate aspiration of becoming a doctor and finding my own path to make a meaningful difference in my community. During medical school, I developed a fondness for children, and I was certain that pediatrics was the path for me. With a solidified interest in this field and a scholarship for pediatric residency in hand, I moved on to do a rigorous four-year pediatric residency program in Jordan. Throughout my training, my passion for child neurology continued to grow. The intellectual depth of the field immediately stood out. I was fascinated by the complexity of neurological disorders and the fast-paced advancement in the field. This passion led me to pursue a child neurology fellowship at Jordan University Hospital, further solidifying my interest in child neurology.
Life took an interesting turn when my husband matched into the Internal Medicine residency program at the University of Toledo, and we found ourselves relocating to the U.S.
Having lived in Iowa for the last two years and worked in research at Iowa’s Neuroimaging and Noninvasive Brain Stimulation Lab, witnessing state-of-the-art technology and interacting with amazing mentors in the field, I was certain that the University of Iowa Child Neurology Program is my top choice. I was very excited to match here!
While still navigating my specific career path, I’m interested in epilepsy, research, and academics.
In my free time, I love baking and cooking, and I enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and kids, running, biking, or hiking.
