University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics offers a variety of refractive surgery options. Our doctors are highly-trained specialists in the field of corneal and refractive surgery. We offer the newest, safest, and effective options for laser vision correction surgery.
Refractive surgery is one of the most common elective procedures done in the United States. The procedure involves changing the shape of the cornea – the clear front “window” of the eye – to improve how many people see.
We offer consultative appointments and free seminars to discuss different refractive surgery options.
Vision specialists at UI Hospitals and Clinics offer a variety of laser-based treatments that can change the shape of your cornea, improving how you see.
Types of Refractive and Laser Surgery Options
LASIK (laser in-situ keratomileusis)
A laser is used to remove a thin layer of tissue from the surface of your cornea. This procedure is used to treat low to moderate near nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy)
A laser is used to remove a thin layer of tissue from the surface of your cornea. This procedure is used to treat low to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
An intraocular lens is placed behind the cornea to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness.
Refractive Lens Exchange
An intraocular lens replaces your natural lens to correct nearsightedness and farsightedness.
