Research

Historically, the Department of Dermatology boasts a strong tradition of research that continues today.

Currently, the Department of Dermatology has active projects in clinical, translational and basic research related to skin diseases. Our faculty strives to span these sciences to both prevent and cure dermatological disorders. Recent grants and contracts to support our research have come from the National Institutes of Health, the Veterans Administration, the Dermatology Foundation as well as pharmaceutical companies.

We have several research projects including the development of an active animal model of BP, cutaneous T cell lymphoma, prognosis of cutaneous melanoma, autoimmune blistering diseases, and the structure and function of the basement membrane zone of the skin and disruptions that are seen in genetic skin diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa.
