6. Who do I contact to arrange for an aspiration of a fluid collection?

Contact either Ultrasound (6-2040) or CT (4-6148) depending on which imaging modality can best locate the fluid collection. For joint aspirations or LPs, contact Fluoroscopy at 6-3356.

7. Who do I contact to arrange for drainage catheter placement into a fluid collection?

Some procedures require IR staff physician review prior to scheduling. For emergent cases, urgent or day of cases, contact pager 5390 weekdays, evenings, holidays or weekends. If this is a routine, non-urgent case our preference would be to have you contact the Interventional Radiology Nurse Coordinator during the weekday hours.

For referring physicians outside the hospital, please call the VIR nurse at 319-353-8141, M-F, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. On evenings and weekends, call the main hospital number at 319-356-1616 and ask them to page #5390.

8. How do I schedule a peripheral interventional radiology procedure?

9. How do I schedule an interventional neuroradiology procedure?

All interventional neuroradiology exams, consults or procedures must be scheduled by the nurse coordinator. Please call 319-353-8141, M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  If it's an emergency and it's after 4:30 p.m., or it's a weekend or holiday, please call 319-356-1616 and request to speak with the person covering the SAH and stroke interventional call pager.
