The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics clinical services are strong and growing. We have made improvements in sedation services, neonatal and pediatric transport, cardiac services, pediatric endoscopy and nephrology services. Strategic faculty recruitment has allowed growth in several key clinical areas and stabilized others. Our goal is to develop a much stronger regional presence and establish University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital as a destination children’s hospital in the Midwest and beyond.
Providing exceptional and comprehensive patient and family centered care remains one of our central values and is a core mission in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics. The breadth of specialty care that we provide is unduplicated in our region. Consequently, many of the most complex, critically ill and severely injured children seek care at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. We are the regional safety net for children providing clinical services that simply are not available elsewhere in the state.
We have been working to develop the leadership team, administrative infrastructure, cadre of care providers, and facilities necessary to advance and grow the entire UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital enterprise. The availability of specialists in disciplines such as rheumatology, infectious diseases, neurology, genetics, developmental disabilities, nephrology and others is essential for the outcomes we enjoy in our critical care units and procedurally intensive specialties.
