2016 Research Day

Our Eleventh Annual Pathology Research Day was held on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016. Morning research presentations by faculty and trainees took place in the H.P. Smith Conference Room (W256 GH) and the plenary presentation, given by Dr. Anirban Maitra was held at 1:00 PM in 2117 MERF. The afternoon poster session was held in the Eckstein Medical Research Building Atrium with 43 posters presented. The event was an opportunity for Pathology researchers from all quarters of the Department to share their research projects, latest findings and recent presentations at national meetings. Collectively, there was a full schedule of cutting edge work encompassing a variety of basic, translational and clinical topics.

Anirban Maitra, MBBS

Dr. Maitra’s plenary talk was titled “Why Is Pancreatic Cancer So Hard To Treat, And What Can We Do About It” and summarized his recent work exploring the oncogenesis and progression of this deadly cancer. Dr. Maitra is Professor of Pathology and Translational Molecular Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is also the Scientific Director of the Sheikh Ahmed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
