The award fund was originally created by Mrs. Imogene Fisher and her husband Neil in 1987. Mrs. Fisher worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Bone Marrow Lab, retiring after 32 years of service. She has left a fine legacy for all medical laboratory scientists.

This award is based on the essays submitted by our MLS students. I’m very happy to announce the winner this year is Alexis Christine Hawkins.

She was the primary instructor of Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine in the didactic portion of the UIHC Medical Technology program as well as serving as the Blood Bank clinical rotation supervisor.
