In a ceremony held within the Old Capitol Senate Chamber on May 1, the University of Iowa Postdoctoral Association (UIPDA), in coordination with the Graduate College, presented Dr. Nitin Karandikar with the 2019 Most Outstanding Postdoctoral Mentor Award.

Beyond his role as Chair and DEO of Pathology in the Carver College of Medicine, Nitin mentors graduate students, visiting scholars, and postdocs in multiple sclerosis immunology research. He was selected from an extremely competitive pool of nominees for this campus-wide distinction of excellence.

Nitin was nominated by his current postdocs – Alexander W. Boyden and Michael P. Crawford – who warmly described Nitin in two personal letters as having affected the two in countless ways. Through his intellect, infectious personality, and the supportive environment he provides, Nitin has truly guided and impacted his mentees in every way the award aims to recognize. Nitin’s lab members are thrilled for his well-deserved honor.
