Categorical Program: Overview

Internal Medicine physicians

Our three-year categorical program emphasizes the development of not only well-rounded but also well-respected physicians, who are equipped with the essential tools and competency to excel in areas such as academic, sub-specialty, hospitalist and the community-based fields of internal medicine.

By providing residents with progressive patient care responsibilities, professional growth and development is supported in a variety of clinical settings, with the ultimate goal of independent practice. Resident exposure to subtle increments in expectations, coupled with several leadership development programs and open-door availability of faculty mentors, have been the cornerstone for producing successful, young doctors.

While all residents will gain exposure to the ever-expanding breadth of medicine through a handful of required rotations, our program is truly unique in the sense that it seamlessly tailors each resident’s schedule to foster pursuit of their individual career goals and interests. Several career pathways have been established to streamline the transition from a medical school graduates to becoming capable, confident, and caring physicians in the community. These pathways concentrate on preparing residents who are interested in careers with primary focuses in research, primary care, or hospitalist medicine.
