UI Ophthalmologist, Erin Shriver, MD, was selected for the 2015 Emerging Leader Award by Women in Ophthalmology (WIO). The organization met for its Summer Symposium on August 6-9 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Shriver has served as the WIO Summer Symposium Chair and has been a board member as well.

The WIO Emerging Leader Award recognizes individuals who are newer to practice and have already made significant contributions to WIO and/or to the profession and have demonstrated the potential for leadership and continuing service. The nominee must be in her first 10 years of the study or practice of ophthalmology, have made a significant contribution to WIO and/or the profession, and shown outstanding promise for continuing service and leadership.

WIO was founded to enhance and improve the professional environment for women ophthalmologists. It encourages diversity, impartiality, and economic parity, and strives to cultivate new opportunities for leadership, education, and public service in the field of ophthalmology for ourselves and future generations.
