Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) Community Resources

The experiences and struggles of LGBTQIA+ community, especially queer, transgender people of color (QTPOC), are often forgotten or overshadowed. To lift up those voices, it is vital to understand the dynamic challenges faced by QTPOC, and to highlight the history and ongoing health disparities faced by members of the QTPOC community.

Below is a list of resources that provide more information about the unique struggles of these communities and share tips on how we can become a better ally:

Arab LGBT Movement Speaks Out: My.Kali.

A monthly magazine that concerns the LGBTQ community from all around the world and dedicated for people who live in the: Middle East; for foreigners who live in the Arab world; for those new-gay-to-be; for those who're away fom home; and for those who're intereseted in entering the world of My.Kali.

Audre Lorde Project

The Audre Lorde Project is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. Through mobilization, education and capacity-building, they work for community wellness and progressive social and economic justice.

Brown Boi Project

The Brown Boi Project is a community of masculine of center womyn, men, two-spirit people, transmen, and our allies committed to transforming our privilege of masculinity, gender, and race into tools for achieving racial and gender justice.

Ericka Hart

A kinky, poly, cancer-warrior, activist and sexuality educator with a Master’s of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University, Ericka Hart has taught sexuality education for elementary aged youth to adults across New York City for over 10 years. She is committed to empowering students to make a difference in the world and with each other, opening up robust discourse that connects sexual health and wellness to the systemic issues at the root of social injustice, helping students at over 20 colleges and universities across the country this past year alone discover actionable steps to confront those issues powerfully.

POC Online Classroom: Health, Medicine, and Racism

POC (People of Color) Online Classroom provides learning resources and syllabi by POC for POC. The Health, Medicine, and Racism page uncovers ‘the origins of how we define health, who we define as healthy, and how these histories impact contemporary trauma, health disparities, and treatment in the healthcare system. It is about the development of science and medicine, and how marginalized people - particularly women of color, poor women, disabled women - were used and abused for the advancement of “scientific knowledge.’ Contemporary ideas of scientific and medical facts exist within a cultural context - that cultural being patriarchal white supremacy.”

Howard Brown Health

Howard Brown exists to eliminate the disparities in healthcare experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through research, education and the provision of services that promote health and wellness.

GLAAD’s Blog on LGBTQ+ Native American Issues

Immigration Equality

Since 1994, Immigration Equality has been proud to support and represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and HIV-positive immigrants seeking safety, fair treatment, and freedom. As the only LGBT organization with a staff of immigration attorneys, Immigration Equality impacts both the individuals they serve and the immigration system as a whole.

Queer Jihad

National Center for Transgender Equality

The National Center for Transgender Equality advocates to change policies and society to increase understanding and acceptance of transgender people. In the nation’s capital and throughout the country, NCTE works to replace disrespect, discrimination, and violence with empathy, opportunity, and justice.

Rest for Resistance

Rest for Resistance strives to uplift marginalized communities, those who rarely get access to adequate health care or social support. This includes Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Pacific Islander, Asian, Middle Eastern, and multiracial persons.
