Our People

Our people are the heart of our program. From the reception desk to the laboratory technicians, from the gross room to the molecular laboratory, from the blood bank to the FNA clinic, from the resident room to the faculty offices, you will find our people in our department interested and eager to help you become the best pathologist you can be.

At Iowa, you will be exposed to some of the best clinicians, teachers and clinicians in our profession. We provide high-powered opportunities for you to learn career-long lessons from these dedicated professionals while maintaining an open-door philosophy and collegial atmosphere. Classmates in your residency will share in the support and encouragement that will help you excel while at Iowa.

Worked with Dr. Andrew Bellizzi to research the rate of deficient DNA mismatch repair function in keratoacanthomas in order to examine the predictive value of keratoacanthomas in relation to Muir-Torre syndrome.

Summer Research Fellow, University of Iowa Departments of Internal Medicine & Microbiology.
Investigated the regulation of activation-associated microRNA accumulation rates during monocyte-to-macrophage differentiation. Research results were presented as a poster at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., the Medical Student Research Day at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the Center for Immunology and Immune-Based Diseases Retreat in Iowa City, IA. A manuscript of the project was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2014.

Medical Scientist Training Program, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, 2009.
Under the direction of Dr. Marc Rothenberg in the Department of Allergy and Immunology at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, studied the role of microRNA-223 in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic esophagitis. Conducted experiments to quantify the amount of microRNA-223 in experimentally-induced allergen murine models and human cells using RT-PCR. Research findings presented at the Capstone Poster Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
